"Give thanks in whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Imagine with me for a moment. You're trying to enter a grocery store while someone else is trying to exit at the same time. You decide to open the door as a kind gesture to the other person and they return the gesture with a simple, "thank you!"
How would that make you feel? You would probably feel some joy, pride, and satisfaction that you were able to serve someone else and be appreciated in return.
Now, imagine you open the door for them, and they rudely shrug and don't acknowledge you.
How would that make you feel? You'd probably feel angry or frustrated. You'd probably wish that you could turn back the clock and slam the door in their face, or make a snark remark about how they were rude. . .
There's no need to lie and say, "I would NEVER! I would just go on about my day." I can't be the only one that thought about returning a rude gesture.
Now imagine how God must feel. . .
When you wake up, what's the first thing that you do? When you eat, do you pray first? When you go about your day, do you think about Him? When you're going to bed, do you pray before falling asleep?
How many times throughout our day do we get so caught up in our responsibilities and issues that we forget to thank God.
Psalm 22, verse 3 says that "God inhabits the praises of His people." God loves it when we give him thanks, even if it's for some of the simplest things.
Whether it's the spur-of-the-moment praises or the times that we stop to think about the blessings He has given us, God LOVES that.
He desires for the praises of His people. He desires to hear your heart; whether through the joys or the struggles, He wants to know it all.
So pray about it. It doesn't have to be elaborate, but a simple "Thank you."
Thank you for the waking up in the morning. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be patient with the person that cut me off in traffic. Thank you for providing for my every need, and being there when I needed You most.
No matter if the situation is good, bad, or ugly, fill it up with thanks to God and watch as He fills your life up with blessing and opportunities.
