A Treasure

"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart is also." - Matthew 6: 20-21
Have you ever thought any of these thoughts:
Maybe if I make a lot of money, they will respect me.
When I land my dream job, they'll love me.
They'll notice me when I start driving that new car.
The general thought is: "If I do this, then they'll do that."
What are you trying to gain? Are you trying to get someone else's approval, or maybe feel love that you've been deprived of? What is your motivation?
In Matthew 6, Jesus says to store up your treasures in heaven. Sure, we can view that as a material "treasure", but have you ever thought about the treasure as being pride or selfishness?
What is the joy of selfishness? The attention.
Jesus also says in Matthew 6, where your treasure is, your heart is also. If we find our satisfaction and worth in the attention we get from this world, then wouldn't that make it our god?
We must be careful where we allow our hearts to go, and where we put our focus.
Proverbs 16:18 - "Prides goes before the fall, and a haughty spirit before destruction."
When we allow the things and feeling of this life drive our focus and motivations, we allow it room to over take our lives and become a sort of "god" to us.
Be careful and mindful of your motivations for doing things. Is your motivation to fulfill yourself, or is it to glorify God.?
