But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are getting worried and upset about too many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will never be taken away from her." - Luke 10:41-42
I know our lives can get super busy. Whether you're in high-school planning for the next steps of your life; in college cramming for exams; a mom constantly caring for others, or trying to start up a small business, there never seems to be enough time.
I know your very busy, but have you ever stopped to think about your priorities? What do you prioritize the most in your life? Make a list of the top 5 things that are your main focus right now, and be 100% honest with yourself.
Here is my own list:
Graduating College
Growing the ministry
My relationship with God
Spending time with friends & family
saving money
Now that you've made your list, where does your relationship with God lie? It's perfectly okay for your relationship to the Father to not be number one just yet, but our goal is for it to become number one.
So, how do we get to that point?
Maybe you're like me and tried the "cold-turkey" method where you drop all your other priorities to focus just on that one thing. . . How has worked for you?
If I'm honest, that method has failed me every time. I'm typically consistent for about a week, then all my other responsibilities pile up and the first thing to go is my time with God. I am not the best at reading my Bible, and it has always been a struggle for me. I often would beat myself up for not be a "good" Christian, and that feeling of disappointment would linger over me for months.
One thing that I've come to learn is that even though I'm inconsistent, God is ALWAYS consistent. Even when my mind is racing with all the responsibilities hanging on my shoulders, God still loves me and waits patiently for me.
But, I still want to spend time with Jesus and grow my relationship with Him, and I'm pretty sure you do to. To do that, we have to take time to read our Bible and pray. That will require giving up some things that you may enjoy.
In a way, it's a form of fasting. . . and no, you don't have to give up food.
What are some things that take up your free-time during the day?
Maybe its scrolling through social media, or playing a video game? Whatever it is, use that time that you would typically do that thing, and dedicate it to growing your relationship with God. That could be through prayer, worship, Bible readings, etc.
When you choose to set aside something that you enjoy for God, it won't be easy. You may even skip and go back to old habits, but it's okay.
Just start again, and keep pressing forward. Eventually, your time with God will begin to get easier and you'll begin to enjoy the time you spend with God.
Focus on Him, choose Him, and watch as He will begin opening your eyes to His glory and blessing you along the way.
Don't skimp on your time with God!
Your responsibilities and hobbies will still be there after you spend some time with God. Don't worry. God will provide you with the strength and patience you need throughout your day.
Focus on God, and the blessings He gives you will not be taken away.

Psalm 105:4; Luke 10:39-42

I love that so much, and I am always struggling trying to read the Bible and keep God as my number one priority and this was an encouragement! I’m gonna go grab my Bible! ❤️
